Brief Bio:
Prof. Kypreos trained under some of the foremost leaders in cardiovascular biochemistry and molecular pharmacology. He went on to complete prestigious postdoctoral fellowships at the Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute at Boston University Medical Center (1998–2002) and the Department of Human Genetics at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands (2002–2004). From 2001 to 2007 Prof. Kypreos served on the scientific advisory board of KOS Pharmaceuticals during which time he was introduced to the world of Pharmacology. This period established the foundation for his lifelong research focus on the molecular pharmacology of dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis and the metabolic syndrome.
Following his postdoctoral training, Professor Kypreos joined the faculty at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine, where he rose to the position of Research Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2006. Two years later, he returned to Greece to continue his academic career at the University of Patras, initially as Associate Professor of Pharmacology, before being promoted to Full Professor in December 2013. Since September 2014, he has led the Pharmacology Laboratory as its Chair, where he also founded and directs the Center for Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology—a multidisciplinary service core facility that serves as a bridge between academia, clinical research, and the pharmaceutical industry.
A dedicated educator, Professor Kypreos teaches a wide array of courses at the University of Patras as well as other European Universities and Research centers, including various topics of Molecular and Clinical Pharmacology, Toxicology, Pharmacovigilance, Evaluation of the quality of clinical evidence for medicinal products etc l. He is known for integrating current research trends into his teaching, ensuring that students understand both the scientific foundations and the translational implications of pharmacology. Beyond classroom instruction, he has supervised numerous master, doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, many of whom have gone on to successful academic and industrial careers worldwide. His mentorship emphasizes scientific rigor, innovation, and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.
In the global landscape of biomedical research, Prof. Kypreos stands out as a dynamic leader whose work defines the intersection of lipidology, metabolism, and pharmacological innovation. His career exemplifies the rare balance of scholarly excellence, visionary leadership, and societal contribution—qualities that make him an invaluable asset to academia, research consortia, and the broader scientific community.
